About the Event
In Joe’s first solo exhibition, he explores the bottle form and its cultural ties to alcohol. His connection to the material and the symbolism of the bottle embody a deep personal significance to the artist; obsession, destruction, repetition, devotion and transformation. Joe uses a wide breadth of historical and contemporary techniques to reimagine this shape. He works with clay, in part, to create community.
From tiny to massive, with finishes ranging from woodfire to spray paint, created in Kaua’i and Vancouver Island, “Poppin bottles, soda distractions” is a joyous multitude of decorating techniques, firing methods and collaborations.
