Clay Week 2026: Potter's Wheel Intensive

Service Description

In this five-day workshop, we'll focus on the potter's wheel and immerse ourselves in clay. This workshop is designed for a range of intermediate students with instruction & support in a relaxed studio environment. It is also open to those with experience seeking studio time and space in lovely downtown Nanaimo, Vancouver Island. The following will be demonstrated & discussed: Building skills on the potters' wheel, self-evaluation and problem solving. A focus on throwing for busy potters who cannot rely on controlled temperatures for drying. Never know how your work will dry between visits? What if we could throw so that it didn't matter? Skills practiced will include throwing for less trimming and attaching when your clay is fresh. In-depth discussions of throwing for your glazes and glazing for you pots Using underglaze on greenware Attaching handles How to prep and glaze your wares Drying and firing processes Typical Studio Hours for Weeklong Workshops: 10 AM-12 PM demonstration and project descriptions 12 PM-1 PM lunch break 2 PM-4 PM practice and critique, tips and clean up If you are unsure whether this is for you, don't hesitate to email us. Regular Rate: $575 + $100 material fee = $675 +gst Fees include: Instruction & support Clay (equivalent to one bag/participant included in your fee) Slip, Underglaze & transfers Use of studio equipment & tools Bisque firing of work (for Cone 08) Light refreshments Tech services Shipping of work can be arranged for an additional cost Cancellation Policy: -If cancelled by the June 16th, 2025 (registration deadline) fees will be refunded minus a $50 admin fee. -If cancelled after June 16th, 2025, a refund, minus a $50 admin fee, can be issued ONLY if a qualified participant fills your spot. (ie. waiting list) -A full refund will be issued if we have to cancel due to extenuating circumstances.
